Want to pick a SWEET watermelon?

One of the best methods is to look for the "yellow belly" or field spot. This is the spot where the watermelon has been laying on the ground, unexposed to the sun. The longer a melon has been ripening on the vine before harvest, the stronger the yellow belly will be.

 

Remember: once harvested off the vine watermelons do not produce more sugars!
